Rahul Gandhi in (Baran) Rajasthan says only Congress committed to work for the poor

Baran: Second time in the gap of just one week, Congress vice-resident Rahul Gandhi addressed yet another massive Congress rally in poll bound Rajasthan on Tuesday. Speaking at Krishi Upaj Mandi ground in Baran Rahul Gandhi slammed opposition for blocking several pro-poor initiatives of the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre.

Rahul Gandhi reached out to aam aadmi during the huge public rally saying that the Congress has come out with the Food Security Bill and Land Acquisition Bill to empower the weaker sections of the society. “Before the Land Acquisition Bill, any government was free to grab anyone’s land citing any reason.  The main sufferers for such acts were the poor who shed their blood and sweat for the country. No one asked for their consent before grabbing their lands. We have now changed this altogether. We brought the Land Acquisition law to stop such atrocities towards the poor farmers so that their children can dream big. We brought this law to empower the farmers, to honour their hard work” said the Congress leaders amidst loud applauds.

“People will not be benefitted with big speeches. I am not here to deliver long lecture. We are more interested to fulfil our promises. We promised right to job, Food Security, irrigation facilities and improved power situation here and we fulfilled it. This is the difference between us and the opposition” said Rahul Gandhi.

He also hit out at the opposition and said, "The opposition bothers only about the dreams of selected few and ignores others. They target development of only a particular section of the society.  We say even the poor should dream of flying an aircraft. But the opposition parties don't want the poor to have such dreams. This never has been our ideology. Our policy is based on your dreams.  That is why we implemented Right to job policy – MNREGA to ensure jobs to the poor in the villages” said Rahul Gandhi and the huge crowd greeted it with cheers.

While praising the Congress government in the state, the young Congress Vice President said “The biggest problem for the poor is falling sick often. They are forced to spend all their hard-earned income in medicines. But here in Rajasthan, the poor people and poor labourers get free medicines and this is a great service by the Gehlot Govt” and added “I am sure that this scheme will be implemented gradually across the country in the coming days”.

Rajasthan Chief Mister Ashok Gehlot as well as Congress leaders CP Joshi, Sachin Pilot and Namo Narain Meena were also present at the rally. Earlier Rahul Gandhi also inaugurated Kalisindh power project and Chaabra Thermal power station. He also laid the foundation stone for 2x660 MW Chaabra Supercritical Thermal units in the state.

Rahul Gandhi had kick-started his campaign in the state with a mammoth rally at Udaipur on September 11. Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will also visit the state in the coming days.
Rajasthan is among the five Indian states which will hold the assembly polls by the end of the year.
