Nation remembers Rajiv Gandhi on his 71st birth anniversary

President Pranab Mukherjee led the nation in paying homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 71st birth anniversary on Thursday. Congress President and Rajiv Gandhi's wife Sonia Gandhi, son Rahul Gandhi, daughter Priyanka Gandhi, son-in-law Robert Vadra and granddaughter Miraya Vadra paid tribute at his memorial, Vir Bhumi, in New Delhi. Vice-President Hamid Ansari and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also paid homage to Rajiv Gandhi. Birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi is observed as Sadbhavna Diwas (harmony day) in the country. Rajiv Gandhi became the youngest PM of the country when he took office after his mother Indira Gandhi's assassination on October 31, 1984. Rajiv was killed by an ethnic Tamil suicide bomber while campaigning in an election in the south Indian town of Sriperumbudur in May 1991.

Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, interacts with people

Congress Vice President and MP Rahul Gandhi visited his parliamentary constituency Amethi on Tuesday. While interacting with the public he slammed the Modi-led central government for being pro-rich. Rahul Gandhi also took on the Modi government for not delivering on its promise. He also questioned PM Modi for his silence on major issues including corruption by BJP leaders and ministers.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi reached Delhi’s Jantar Mantar to support the protesting Ex-Service men who are demanding the immediate implementation of one rank one pension scheme. “People from armed forces spend their lives on border, they're protesting now & shouldn't be removed” said Rahul Gandhi and added, “These people shouldn’t be removed, they're protesting for their right”.

Hitting out at the Narendra Modi-led NDA government over the contentious Land bill, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday, while addressing a rally after a padyatra in Andhra Pradesh, said he would not let Prime Minister Narendra Modi take farmers' land easily. Referring to government's move to amend the Land bill to give flexibility to states to frame their own laws in a bid to break the impasse in Parliament, he said the Prime Minister has understood that he cannot push farmers , after the agrarians showed their strength. "We have not even showed 10 per cent of the strength of farmers of India. And the Prime Minister suddenly understood that he cannot push the farmers of this country," he said.

Rahul Gandhi visits FTII, interacts with protesting students

PUNE: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday visited the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and expressed solidarity with the students who are protesting the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the chief of the institution. "The RSS and its wings promote mediocrity. I have seen this everywhere," Rahul Gandhi told agitating students.
