Rahul Gandhi in HP, talks about the importance of unity the Congress

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, who was on a two-day visit to the hill state Himachal Pradesh to strengthen the Congress party in the state, underlined that that there is a need to properly define the rights and duties in the organization, particularly at the level of senior leadership, so that fresh energy and new talent can emerge.
"Though the work of people in the government are clearly defined, a need is being felt to define the duties within the party, especially at the level of the senior leadership, who can give their significant contribution for the betterment of the party," said Rahul Gandhi in Kullu beginning his two day tour.
Rahul Gandhi added that there is need to give more importance and representation to workers who should be able to frankly air their views. The Congress leader also urged the Congress leaders and workers to close ranks and put up a united show do as to win the next Assembly polls.
Party sources said the Congress general secretary told workers and leaders that recommendations of block, district and state Congress committees would be given weightage while allocating tickets.
Rahul Gandhi asserted that all Congress cadres will have to work their way up from the grassroot level. "We need to create such a set up in which the party decides the tickets after completing all formalities six months before the election," added the Congress MP from Amethi.
Rahul Gandhi stressed the need for unity during separate meetings with senior Congress leaders, BCC and DCC presidents, MLAs and ex-MLAs, and NSUI members. "The block Congress committee offices should be given more importance than the AICC during distributing tickets," said Rahul Gandhi. In the hour-long interaction with the district and block level officers, Rahul Gandhi said that the party workers functioning at the ground level will have to be further strengthened.
Rahul Gandhi also hailed the role RTI in exposing corruption and significantly added "a problem like corruption cannot be checked only with protests and fasts" in an oblique reference to the agitations on this issue by civil society members recently.
"Youth Congress and NSUI will take the state and the country forward. 10-15 years later, one of you sitting here will be the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. The Chief Minister of tomorrow is sitting here in this room itself," said the Congress leader.
Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by Union minister Anand Sharma and AICC general secretary in charge of Himachal Birinder Singh.
