Attacking BSP, SP and BJP for misruling the state over the last 22 years, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said these parties ignored problems of Bundelkhand region. Starving conditions prevailed in the region but no leader from these parties had tried to help them, said Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public meeting in Mainpuri on February 21 for the ongoing Assembly elections. People of the region have been crying for help from the state government, he added. Mulayam Singh Yadav was chief minister from 2002 to 2007 but did not bother to visit the area to know the problems of the people much less to help them. Mayawati too ignored the people of Bundelkhand and never visited the region, said Rahul Gandhi. “When the people of Bundelkhand approached us at the Centre, I took their problems to the Prime Minister and got a special package of Rs 8,000 crore sanctioned for the development of the region,” Rahul Gandhi further and added “But the money was swindled by BSP ministers and the benefits did not reach the people.” Highlighting that BSP and SP were really not interested in the welfare of the people, Rahul Gandhi made a fervent appeal to the people to vote for Congress (I) to bring development in their state. He assured that a government of the poor by Congress (I) will work for their welfare and ensure that the benefits of the welfare and development schemes reach the poor.
