Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has been working to address the acute draught conditions prevalent in Bundelkhand for last six-seven years. Bundelkhand, comprising of seven districts in UP, is an under-developed region. The state government has shown apathy towards this region. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has always shown concern for the problems being faced by the people. When the state and local authorities upon whom lies the responsibility for addressing the grievances of the peoples failed to do so, the Young leader stepped in to provide needed succor to the helpless people. The UPA central government announced a special package of Rs 7,266 crore in November 2009 for the drought mitigation strategy and integrated development of the region. Besides an allocation of Rs 1,200 crore was made in the 2010-2011 budget. But the Mayawati’s BSP government did not arise to the occasion to undertake special measures to mitigate the acute poor conditions of the people of the areas. Recently Rahul Gandhi accompanied the Prime Minister visited this region and assured the people that everything possible would be done to assuage the misery of the people.
