Mayawati’s senior minister under scanner: Congress (I)

The Lokayukta’s indictment on one more minister in the Mayawati cabinet is showing how corrupt is her ministry, felt Congress. Already a dozen of her ministers are under UP Lokayukta scanner.

This time it is Naseemuddin Siddiqui, one of the most powerful ministers in the Mayawati led BSP government. Congress said that already a number of ministers and legislators in Mayawati government have been indicted by Lokayukta for corruption charges, misuse of official position and grabbing of lands. Chief Minister Mayawati has already dropped over a dozen indicted ministers and legislators. But new cases keep coming confirming that Mayawati government is neck deep in corruption, argued the Congress. In the present case it is alleged that at the time of filing nomination for election as MLC earlier this year, the minister’s wife had deliberately omitted to mention several properties in the affidavit filed along with the nomination. This points to possession of disproportionate assets by the Minister’s family, said Congress (I).

People of Uttar Pradesh now turning to Congress (I)

Congress (I) has said people of Uttar Pradesh have suffered too much under BJP, SP and BSP governments.  These caste-based and class-based political parties played with the sentiments of the people to grab power in the state. These political parties neither developed the state on modern lines nor served the people.  These opportunist political parties only filled their coffers, did their tenure in office and left the people in huff.  These political parties stooped so much low that ideologically opposed parties like BSP and BJP got into unholy alliance for each to run the Uttar Pradesh government on six monthly bases. Each successive government indulged in as much corruption as it could.  The present Mayawati’s BSP government has turned the government into a trading company where goods and services are sold and purchased for a price. Corruption, crime, extortions, abductions and rapes are order of the day. People angry with Mayawati for failure on all fronts are now turning to Congress (I) to reverse this sordid trend and to put Uttar Pradesh back on the fast tract of development.

Mayawati’s govt. got maximum funds from Congress (I)-led UPA govt.

Congress (I) has lashed out at Mayawati for getting maximum funds from Congress (I)-led UPA government at the Center for development works but not undertaking development works in the state.  “She is always hungry of funds despite receiving maximum funds from the Centre. It is a state where maximum funds have been misused”, said Congress (I) spokesman.  Mayawati has misused funds in constructing parks and erecting statutes including her own, which is unheard of in the country. Funds were given to Maya government under NRHM scheme for improving rural health services. But most of those funds be siphoned off by corrupt officials and the balance remained unutilised. Again funds for Mahatama Gandhi NREGA Scheme were made available by centre for providing employment to rural poor but instead funds were misapplied in purchasing of laptop computers and in payment of transportation bills of concerned officers. For Mayawati paucity of funds is just an excuse for not undertaking development in the state, said Congress (I).

For Mayawati statues more important than good deeds: Congress (I)

Congress (I) has said Mayawati seems to have realized that days of her BSP government are short and even getting murkier as scores of corruption and crime cases against her ministers and legislators are coming out in the public.  So Mayawati is busy in building parks and statues in her and her party’s name to perpetuate her memory after her, said Congress (I).  She has been doing it at the cost of public money. Recently she built one park for Rs 694 crores in a poor state of Uttar Pradesh.  It is a colossal waste of public money.  Importantly it brings out a sign of psychological unrest in Mayawati’s mind for she is apprehensive that people might not remember her after she is gone.  Otherwise there is no reason why building of parks and her own statues should take priority over everything else, said Congress (I).  People are long remembered not by their statues but by public service which they perform with devotion and dedication, pointed out Congress (I).

Crime and corruption in UP – Mayawati reaping what she sowed, says Congress (I)

Congess (I) has said there are daily cases of crime, extortions, murders and rapes in the state.  It is ironical that Behanji is ruling the state but dalit behans and betis are not safe in the state.  Police personnel themselves are committing such crimes and even rapes.  Administration is harassing and committing extortions upon innocent people.   Behenji is warning her bhaiyyas to improve their public conduct; but   Behenji's bhaiyyas are not prepared to mend their conduct, said Congress (I). Political analysts say though Mayawati had won 2007 assembly elections on the lawlessness issue during the Mulayam regime, she had fielded 131 candidates with criminal cases, of whom 63 won.  In the Lok Sabha elections, 2009, BSP gave tickets to at least 14 mafia dons. But the point is as Mayawati inducted so many leaders of criminal background in the party, they are bound to show their true colours at one or the other time. Mayawati is now reaping what she had sown earlier, said Congress (I).

Mayawati's wealth up by Rs 35 crore in 2010: Congress (I)

Congress (I) has said it is strange that while Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati likes to call herself as garib ki beti, she very much like to grab wealth as much as possible even it is by corrupt means.  BSP supremo Mayawati has assets worth over Rs 88 crore. She has commercial and residential properties worth Rs 75.47 crore, according to an affidavit furnished by her. She has 3,987.78 sq.mts property worth Rs 54 crore in New Delhi, the affidavit said. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 88 lakh. According to the affidavit, Mayawati has deposits in banks and other financial institutions amounting to Rs 11.39 crore.  In the affidavit filed by Mayawati in 2007 while contesting a Vidhan Parishad by poll, she had said she had assets worth Rs 52 crore. Thus her wealth is up by Rs 35 crore in a short spell. Thus in the circumstances Mayawati has no claim to call her garib ke beti, said one local Congress (I) leader in Lucknow

Congress: Crime has peaked in Uttar Pradesh

The heart of India has been mired by big sprocket wholes of organized crime. The reality has now surfaced in a big way in cornering the Mayawati government in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The Indian National Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi criticized Mayawati government for the high crime rate in the state. He said, "Uttar Pradesh accounts for up to 33 percent of the total crime registered in the entire country."

"The national crime record bureau released for 2010 puts the crime rate as the highest in Uttar Pradesh. I am not taking you to the details but roughly 33 percent plus of all crimes registered in the county are registers in Uttar Pradesh," said Singhvi.

Stories of theft, robbery, murder, molestation and rape are doing the rounds on the pages of various newspapers and on television news channels. There has been an immense crime growth in the state.

The crime graph in the state has been on a steep rise since the ruling state government came to power. It must be checked or the ruling Mayawati government will have to face grave troubles in the times to come. Temperature is going hotter – the Uttar Pradesh people may even vote the Elephant out.

Congress campaign in the right spirit in Uttar Pradesh

Echoes of campaigns can be heard to distances as the Indian National Congress prepares to fight the battle of the heartland of India, Uttar Pradesh that is going to see assembly elections next year.

Audio-visual campaigns will go on air from November 14, and besides being high on Rahul factor, they will showcase the 'misrule' and lack of development over the 22 years since Congress was last in power in UP.

The electronic media spots will highlight the vision of the Gandhi family for growth and development, right from the times of Jawaharlal Nehru to Rahul Gandhi now, and pack in the punch line "Utho, Jaago, Badlo".

Meanwhile, huge effort can be seen amongst Congress leaders and supporters alike with Youth Congress icon Rahul Gandhi leading from the front. Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will be the face of the Congress campaign in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

The bigger thing is the actual use of these slogans to woo the voters. If done in a genuine and well organised way this can really do magic for Congress. Temperature will be boiling as the elections approach, and then will be the tougher task.

Congress: For Mayawati her statues more important than welfare

Congress (I) has said in her tenures as a Chief Minister, Mayawati erected number of statues of Buddhist and Dalit icons She claimed that the expenditure on statues and symbols of Dalit Icons was required because the past governments did not show respect towards Dalit icons. She has spent over Rs 2,500 crore on projects of five parks and memorials. CAG reported that Rs. 15 Crore was spent on memorials. The Supreme Court of India has admitted a PIL questioning this expenditure. In October 2011 Mayawati inaugurated the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal and Green Garden, built at a cost of Rs 685 crores. The memorial also features her own statue.  Congress (I) said Mayawati was wasting tax-payers' money. Lame excuse put forth by Mayawati was that statues were erected because Kanshi Ram's will requested that his statues should be constructed next to next of Mayawati. Thus for Mayawati her statues are more important than welfare of ‘dalit’, said Congress (I).

Congress: Mayawati’s MLA involved in crime against children

Congress (I) has said Mayawati is responsible for bad state of affairs in Uttar Pradesh which was one stand bearers of the country but is now lagging behind in all field.  It is because Maya inducted persons of desperate and criminal background in BSP and then in her government. For example Haji Alam  is MLA from Bulandshahr and his brother Haji Yunus own a circus. Muzaffarnagar court has issued non-bailable warrants against Haji Alam in a case of rape and child labour at the circus. Some times back  NGO, Pravasi Nepali Mitra Manch, lodged an FIR at the Kotwali police station in Muzaffarnagar, alleging that boys and girls, all from Nepal, were forcibly kept at a circus owned by the brothers. Post-complaint, a police raid at the circus released 32 boys and girls: while the relatives of some of them came from Nepal and took them away. 28 girls were sent to Nari Nekatan in Saharanpur (UP). This confirms that crimes of child labor are being committed by BSP legislators, said Congress (I).

Congress: Corruption increased during Mayawati rule

Congress (I) has said the past four years of Mayawati’s rule in UP has led to spiraling criminalisation, corruption, violence on women, land grab, killing of farmers and repression on people’s movements. Mayawati came to power by making ‘law and order’ an issue, and dalits and women in particular had high aspirations from her government. But the aspirations of dalits have been busted and brutally betrayed. Shekhar Tiwari, BSP MLA from Auraiya, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of PWD engineer Manoj Gupta, who was given electric shocks and left to die outside a police station after he refused to meet Tiwari’s demand for a ‘donation’ for Mayawati's birthday celebrations in 2008. Anand Sen Yadav, BSP MLA from Milkipur (Faizabad) and former Minister facing several other cases of murder and extortion, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the kidnapping and murder of a young Dalit woman in October 2007.
