BJP never talked about poor or backward class: Rahul Gandhi

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi while addressing a rally in Basti as part of his election campaign in Uttar Pradesh said that BJP never talked about poverty or the issues of the poor.

 “The BJP and NDA talked about many things like terrorism. In fact the poverty is the biggest threat for development at present. The issues of the poor, backward class are supreme. But the BJP and NDA never talked about these” blamed Rahul Gandhi.

“What did we do? We came to you and asked about your difficulties. You had told us that there are no sufficient jobs available in the villages. The people are forced to migrate to big cities for jobs. So the first thing we did was to implement MNREGA, the biggest employment guarantee scheme, to guarantee jobs for all. By this biggest employment generation scheme poor are assured of jobs if they intend to work. Every poor is assured of 100 days of work at a daily wages of Rs 120 thus amounting to Rs 12,000 a year,” said Rahul Gandhi on UPA’s Mahatma Gandhi NREGA policy.

“Then we went to the farmers and asked about their problems. They told us that the doors of the banks are closed for them and many of them are being burdened with huge loans. The Centre took necessary measures to open the doors of the banks for the farmers and also framed a policy to waive off loan of the poor farmers worth Rs. 60000 crore” informed Rahul Gandhi.

 “When drought-hit Bundelkhand was crying for help neither Mayawati Ji nor Mulayam Ji went there. I had personally requested the Chief Minister to kindly go there. But she refused,” said Rahul Gandhi.

L.K. Advani’s double speak does not impress anyone: Congress

BJP has proved itself utter failure time and again. Its ideology has been rejected by the people during 2004 and again in 2009 Parliamentary elections. It is now bankrupt of ideas and has, for that reason, turned desperate. To retain its public image it has been raising ridiculous issues to gain cheep publicity. BJP has been adopting same attitude inside and outside the houses of the Parliament. It is going to the extent of joining hands with Leftist parties.  People are intrigued and puzzled by this mismatch and unholy allowance. A classical example is senior BJP senior leader L.K. Advani.  He went to Pakistan and said Jinnah was a patriot leader. While in India the same L.K. Advani said Jinnah was traitor. This double speak itself tells upon the credibility of BJP leaders. They say what suit them at a moment disregarding the principles of propriety and national interests too.

Rahul Gandhi wants democracy reaches grass roots

Rahul Gandhi said that the graft could be curbed if the democracy touches the grass root. It can be proved right to a certain extent by analyzing the example of ‘people’s planning’ model implemented in Kerala in mid 90’s, following the vision of Late Rajiv Gandhi’s ‘panchayati raj’ policy. Before the ‘people’s plan’, each and every project of any parts of the state had to be sanctioned by the state Government. And of course in those cases, the chances of corruption and mismanagement of funds were high. But after the new policy was adopted, the people were given powers to discuss, plan, finalise and implement any project in a village through the local bodies. Every panchayat constituted small committee of the local people to discuss their issues and planning the projects. When the decision making powers came to the grass root with high level of transparency, there was no question of corruption. And the scar of corruption slowly got removed to a greater extent. This new policy created wonders in the small state of Kerala, and during the first five years of the ‘people’s plan’ there were tremendous improvement, mainly in the area of infrastructure and basic amenities in the rural areas, which was applauded by the people even outside India. Rahul Gandhi also said "If the country is to be changed, it cannot be changed from the top, it can be changed from the ground level. Policies can be from the top, ideas can come from the top, thoughts can come from the top, but their implementation has to be at the level of municipalities, panchayats and wards".  If we connect the example of Kerala with the words of Rahul Gandhi, we can realize once again the value and strength of democracy and we can also feel the importance of a visionary leader like young Rahul Gandhi. Our country needs such energetic, dynamic new generation leaders.
