Accusing Mayawati for not ensuring that the poor get the benefits of centrally sponsored welfare schemes, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said Mayawati misused Bundelkhand special package. The benefits of that package did not reach the people of the region, said Rahul Gandhi while campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections. Bundelkhand is most backward region of the state and reeling under drought, he said. “I personally visited the region and saw the pathetic conditions of the people suffering from hunger and unemployment, Rahul Gandhi further said. “We got a special package of Rs 8,000 sanctioned for integrated development of Bundelkhand region,” he said and added that she failed to spend even less than 10% of special package funds for development of Bundelkhand. Rahul Gandhi pointed out that people of the region continue to suffer while funds are actually available. In these circumstances there is no point giving more money which disappears through leaking pipes, said Rahul Gandhi. Highlighting that in the name of assistance her government provided contaminated seeds, sick goats, dead saplings and dry hand pumps to the people, Rahul Gandhi said she never visited the region to have first hand information about the problems of the people there. Her misuse of the central package has compounded the miseries of the people of Bundelkhand, said Rahul Gandhi.
