Scholarship scam in Mayawati government: Rahul Gandhi

Blaming Mayawati for bad state of educational system in the state, Congress (I) has said rampant scams in her government did not spare even poor students’ scholarship scheme. She is playing with the education and career of students of Uttar Pradesh, said Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi while campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections. Under higher education scholarship scheme UP government allotted funds of Rs 500 crores. But out of this amount Rs 400 crore disappeared through leaking pipes in connivance with private educational institutions, said Rahul Gandhi while campaigning in poll bound state. There are around 700 private professional colleges in the state. State government is paying fees of SC/ST and poor students in the form of scholarship direct to the private institutions.  But private colleges are also charging fees from those students. Thus while students have been deprived of the benefits of scholarship, she has helped private colleges to fill their coffers, said Congress (I). Pointing out that career of the youth is more important, Congress (I) has promised in its manifesto to establish more institutions of higher education in the state.

Rahul Gandhi in Bisalpur narrates his experience in a UP hospital

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi shared one of his experiences with the crowd in Bisalpur. “I went to a hospital in UP where some painting and renovation works were going on. I went inside. There were no doctors, patients or nurses. Dogs were scampering inside. I asked them what is going on. They said that Mayawati is on a tour to this area and she will be visiting the hospital and therefore the renovation. As she was expected to take the road route so the roads were being repaired and the hospital building was being painted,” he said and added “This is the situation in the state”.
